Happy Anniversary

* This picture was taken one day before my surgery. I cannot thank my sisters and mom enough for all their help while I was recovering. *

So much reflection lately. May 9th marked one year ago that I had my surgery. Tony Robbins says you are meant to grow so you have something to give. I feel this in my soul.

My journey has come with many discoveries. Today I just wanted to blog about the top five questions I frequently getting asked.

1. Did you just start working out more? No. Is it important to move your body? Yes. If you are starting today then simply just focus on getting 12,000 steps daily. The thing is if you aren’t eating healthy now, and you are not currently working out then doing both will overwhelm you.

2. What is the number one thing I can do to lose weight? Losing weight is primarily about what food you are putting in your body. I would say my biggest piece of advice is to commit to what you are eating the next day the night before. A lot of the reason I would make poor food choices was because I didn’t have a plan.

3. How do you stay so disciplined? I made a promise to myself that I would never go back to the way I once was - physically and mentally. Every single day I decide to show up for myself. I do however listen to my body, and rest when I need it. I often say motivation gets your started, but discipline keeps you going. I for sure don’t always feel like eating healthy and exercising, but I haven’t come this far to only come this far.

4. Do Pete and Henry eat the same things as you? Sometimes they do, but they also go to Dairy Queen and get a chicken strip basket. I do not want Henry to have a negative relationship around food. I don’t believe in good food/bad food. There are foods that better fuel our body, but I want Henry to learn he can have indulgent foods in moderation.

5. Do you feel like a different person after losing that much weight? I think so much of me has changed, while so much of me has remained the same. I absolutely had to change the way I processed stress, the way I ate, and the way I managed my life. I will say this…People treat me like a different person. It has been a strange feeling to have people become nicer to me since I have lost weight. What does that say about what we put emphasis on? I believe it is important to be healthy and feel good in your body. This looks differently for everyone. Surround yourself with the people that love you and support you through the good and bad. Those are your people.

Change is hard, but so is living a life of physical and mental pain. You are the only one standing in your way.
